Turkey Vulture

This bird has the largest range of distribution; from the extreme south of South America to southern Canada.

It's about the size of a small eagle. It's a large blackish bird with round and rather long wings, medium rounded tail, and a small, naked, red head (young have blackish heads). It sails and soars much with wings above the horizon and separated primaries showing surface of flight-feathers grayish in contrast to black under the coverts.

Breeds from southern British Columbia, southern Manitoba, northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, southern Ontario, central New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut south to southern lower California, the Gulf Coast, and northern Mexico; winters throughout its regular range on the Atlantic slope but not north of the Ohio Valley, Nebraska, and California. This bird does not migrate.

Eggs: 1-3 eggs; 2.8 x 1.9 inches.
